Sustainable Carbon for a Sustainable Future

Picture
_Our Mission:

· Global: to help reduce negative climatic effects of utilizing fossil-based materials for energy, chemicals, and other products. Further, through sustainably produced substances, reduce the effects of expanding world population and concurrently dwindling food production;

· National: to help the United States move away from reliance on foreign fossil-based materials;

· Regional: to help Oregon, Washington, Nevada, and California fulfill their commitment to their respective Renewable Portfolio Standards and to sustainably utilize natural resources in an ecologically sound, environmentally intelligent manner;

· Local: to help improve the economy and reduce unemployment in the immediate community where its facilities are located.

Mankind Faces Huge Challenges:

_
  • Energy production needs to meet the demands of a growing population that is evolving from an agrarian society to a more urban, energy-centric demographic.
  • Sufficient infrastructure capacity must be developed to accomplish the goal of meeting a higher percentage of energy demand from renewable energy.
  • Tens of thousands of sites worldwide that are contaminated by heavy metal and other toxic elements due to mining and manufacturing.
  • Critical water shortages threaten global economic growth following years of erratic rainfall and plummeting water-tables in urban areas.
  • Serious nitrogen/phosphate fertilizer shortages are compounded by inefficient fertilizer use producing run-off into lakes and streams causing algae blooms which decimate food fish populations.
  • The need is becoming urgent to produce more food in the face of a burgeoning global population compounded by an impending water shortage crisis.
  • The exploding world population increases the need to intensify crop yields, especially on currently marginal lands.
  • Equitable global economic growth must be maintained while at the same time reducing GHG (greenhouse gas) emissions.
  • Over 8 billion tons of biomass is simply burned every year releasing huge amounts of GHG every year. In the US close to a billion tons of biomass are left to rot in fields and forests annually releasing even more GHG.

  • Bio-oil and biochar produced by 3-DT’s Vacuum Pyrolysis technology can be used as renewable and sustainable drop-in replacements for heating oil, bunker fuel, coal, and other heat and energy sources
  • Biochar has been shown to contain the leeching of heavy metals and other toxic elements. Additionally, it can be easily converted to activated carbon further enhancing its performance as a water filtration medium.
  • All of 3-DT’s products are carbon-neutral or carbon-negative and can be used for carbon sequestration applications
  • The use of 3-DT biochar in agricultural applications will conserve water as well as reducing the leeching and run-off of fertilizers into groundwater. Additionally, biochar will provide a favorable environment for beneficial bacteria and mycorrhizae further reducing the need for continual fertilizer application
  • Biochar’s beneficial properties will drastically improve marginal, sandy, and desert soils’ ability to hold water and nutrients leading to increased crop yields in areas currently not efficiently able to raise fruits, vegetables and livestock
  • 3-DT’s business model allows production of profitable carbon neutral and carbon negative products which can be in turn sold on the open market enhancing economic opportunity where plants are located
  • 3-DT’s Vacuum Pyrolysis maximizes the use of ALL carbon within the biomass minimizing the release of GHG into the atmosphere

Three Dimensional Timberlands

Picture
An Oregon limited liability company formed to develop a global network of sustainable biomass pyrolysis plants. These facilities will utilize timber waste, logging residue, and low-grade merchantable logs to produce carbon-negative biochar for agricultural use and carbon-neutral bio-fuel products.  The technology also has the ability to utilize other feedstock sources such as bamboo, crop residue, and urban wood waste, as well as used tires, municipal wastes, etc. These will have applications in a wide range of industries including agriculture, electrical generation, soil remediation, water and air filtration, asphalt road construction, metallurgy, and the cooking fuel industry. Additional applications for these products currently being developed include sustainable liquid fuel substitutes for diesel and jet engines as well as a source for commodity and fine chemicals.

Three Dimensional Timberlands (3-DT) has the exclusive rights for the Pacific Northwest Region of the United States to the only continual-feed vacuum pyrolysis process proven on a commercial scale, having run successfully for 2,000 hours at a capacity of up to 3 metric tons of feedstock per hour. 3-DT is working with major timberland owners, timberland management companies, as well as State and Federal Forestry officials to ensure a sustainable and abundant source of woody biomass feedstock.

In addition and as a compliment to 3-DT’s Biomass Pyrolysis operations, 3-DT may evaluate, acquire and manage high-quality timberland properties in the Pacific Northwest Region of the United States, which is home to some of the most valuable commercial forests in the world. 3-DT’s business model of integrating Biomass Pyrolysis plant and timberland ownership together is unique in that is an opportunity to ensure consistent high-quality sustainable feedstock resulting in products with the same unwavering standards of reliable quality.

3-DT is also developing a state-of-the-art Bioproducts Research Center in an Open Campus format to facilitate and further the beneficial use of sustainable materials derived from plant growth. The aim of this Center is to reduce negative climatic effects of utilizing fossil-based energy sources and, through sustainably produced products, reduce the effects of expanding world population and concurrently dwindling food production.
